Fowey’s famous Christmas Market Weekend opens at 5.30pm on Friday 30th November with the usual array of wonderful and varied traders. The marquees on Town Quay, Albert Quay and Webb Street will be open until 8.30pm for late night shopping. A hog roast will be on sale and many of Fowey’s shops, cafes and businesses will also be open late to join in the festivities.

At around 6.30pm Father Christmas will arrive by tug boat at Berrills Yard (the lifeboat pontoon), accompanied by the Fowey Town Band. Father Christmas and the Town Band will lead an illuminated lantern parade (please no real candles!) through the streets, onto Town Quay and round in front of the church for the Big Light Switch On at 7pm and a firework display from the church tower, sponsored by Home Instead Mid Cornwall

After the light switch on and fireworks there will be treats for the children courtesy of The Quay Bakery and mulled cider courtesy of Wasted Apple Co . There is also a children’s disco in the Town Hall from 7pm – 8.30pm, see separate event post for further details.

    PARADE ROUTE:
Please note that the parade will turn left into Webb Street and there will be no access via the road between Bookends and The Cornish Bakery. The parade will continue along Webb Street, through Town Quay, between Haveners and the Aquarium and onto Trafalgar Square towards The Ship Inn in order for crowds to gather in front of the church. There will be no access for the parade via Market Street at the corner between the toilets and the King of Prussia.

    ROAD CLOSURE:
Please note that the road through Fowey will be closed from Varcoe’s Corner (junction of Lostwithiel Street and The Esplanade) to Station Road from 5.30pm to 8.30pm and the only vehicle access during this time will be the Fowey Town Bus and emergency vehicles.
